The advertisements carrying junk food ads directed towards children of 16 have been asked to be banned by the Obesity Policy Coalition. The decision came after a survey which suggested that there was a need to control the junk food advertisements. Following the survey the Obesity Policy Coalition said that one-quarter of Australian children are overweight and obese. Moreover, the commercial of junk food is not helping in self control.
The group’s Senior Policy Adviser, Jane Martin, told that nine out of 10 people believes that junk food advertisement should be controlled on television as children have greater exposure to it. A mother of a son reported saying that because of wrong message sent through the junk food campaign her son thinks that if he does lots of physical activity then he will be able to have junk food. This belief in children is growing day by day. There are lots of children who think the same. Therefore, it is very important for the advertisers to control the message being sent through their advertisement.
Meanwhile, it has emerged that obesity in children is also contributed by their parent. A scientific study has revealed that overweight parents potentially pass on their propensity to become obese to their children whereas the case is different with the normal body weight people.
