After the great oil spill last year, there was the launch of Rig Worker’s Assistance Fund by the oil giant, BP. The sum allowed in the fun is a huge $100 million. The firm is surprised to see how the rig workers are disinterested in the fund and is unwilling to make the most out of the fund they have been granted.
The workers were forced to give up activities related to drilling in the rig after the oil spill. This is the reason the firm was giving them a grant in the form of the fund so as to make up for the loss incurred by the workers.
Te federal law has keen eyes on the firms that are responsible for oil spills; they are allowed to pay for the economic losses incurred due to the same. In this particular case of oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, the administration of Barack Obama had made an imposition of a drilling moratorium for a period of five months.
There was an understanding that the oil firm and the President came under and according to it, it was made clear that there shall be a fund of $20 billion for the coverage of the damage incurred by the oil spill. BP on the other hand, also came up with a charitable input in the same regard, for the benefit of the employees of the oil rig.
