According to a panel discussion of the US government on Monday, it was disclosed that there are very few evidences which prove the changes in diet and lifestyle decreases the risk of Alzheimer's disease.
Experts at the National Institute of Health tested whether diet, exercise, nutritional supplements and some other changes affects the risk of Alzheimer's or not.
It was revealed that diabetes, high cholesterol and smoking may raise the risk of Alzheimer's. Even, old age is the most common factor of raising the risk factor for the disease, as 26 million people worldwide are suffering from the disease. People with specific variant of the apolipoprotein E or APOE gene are also at the greater risk of Alzheimer's.
People who have their family background of Alzheimer's should also pay attention to maintain good health, because they are also at the risk.
On the other hand, changes in diet such as eating healthy diets, which is high in healthy fats, fruits and vegetables helps in reducing the risk of Alzheimer's. Even, keeping the brain and body healthy also lowers the risk of Alzheimer's.
The panel concluded, "It is clear that there is a relationship between heart health and brain health, and this relationship needs further research so that we can make definitive recommendations".
