On Tuesday, General Motors announced about its plan to invest $2 billion across its 17 auto plants in the United States in an effort to save or create about 4,000 jobs. The above announcement was made by GM CEO Dan Akerson at a factory in Toledo, Ohio, where the automaker is planning to build a new 8-speed transmission.
According to the investment plans, GM will be investing $204 million in the plant for the new transmission and will be succeeding in adding or saving approx 250 jobs.
Although the announcements have been made but the other plant investments will come over the next several months as the automaker recently said that it is negotiating the tax and incentive plans with city and state governments, of which the major investments will be in Midwest states.
Akerson further added in his statement that every single job that has been added or saved at the GM factory means seven jobs if we include jobs at supplier companies and at stores and businesses reliant on GM employees.
"If you add that multiplier -- seven times 4,000 -- that's 28,000 jobs that should come from our confidence in the reborn General Motors," Akerson said.
