Telstra, the giant telecom services provider, has shared its predictions for the New Year, forecasting that over 66 million SMS messages would be circulated all across during New Years Eve and New Year Day itself.
The company is expecting over 31 million phone calls, about 25,000 video calls, and in all, over 850,000 MMS messages to be sent across the Telstra network over a mere two day period. About
5 years back, during the same period, only about 14 million texts were sending using the service.
This year's predicted figure of 66 million texts is a hike of 2 million over last year's recorded figure.
"While customers may experience some short delays in getting calls or messages though during this period of time, we encourage them to be patient, wait a few minutes before trying again", said, Telstra Consumer Executive Director Jenny Young, while warnings that customers might experience some delay in sending and receiving of messages due to clogging of the network.
The record prediction for New Year's has come after the network's similar record forecast for Christmas which said that a total of 91 million texts would be circulated on the network over a 3 day period.
