Microsoft on Tuesday rolled out two patches to fix vulnerabilities in the Windows Internet Name Server (WINS) and Microsoft PowerPoint, but the software giant left Mac Office users in the lurch by announcing that the fix for a PowerPoint bug in the Mac Office was not ready.
The company's MS11-036 security bulletin confirmed, "Security updates for Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac, Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac, and Open XML File Format Converter for Mac are unavailable at this time."
The company said it would issue the updates for Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac, Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac and Open XML File Format Converter for Mac when testing is complete.
The company's MS11-035 `critical' update fixes vulnerability in WINS component of Windows 2003 and 2008 Server OS. The vulnerability in WINS could allow remote control execution in case a user receives a specifically crafted malware on an affected system. Exploitation of the vulnerability would most likely come in the form of denial of the service attack.
The second update, MS11-036, affects older version of Microsoft Office PowerPoint, including Office XP, 2003, 2007. It fixes two holes that could allow remote code execution if a user opens a malicious PowerPoint file.
Last month, Microsoft released 17 bulletins to fix a total of 64 vulnerabilities.
