On the occasion of her 117th birthday, great American dancer & choreographer Martha Graham on Wednesday received a birthday tribute in the form of a Google Doodle.
The world's most popular search engine, Google, posted an animated Doodle on its homepage, depicting the Graham in five different dance movements. The five different dance movements were spelling out the search engine's name- Google.
Born in 1984, Graham is widely considered to be the pioneer in the field of modern dance. She ditched old-fashioned ballet traditions to create a new style of dance.
She created her own dance company, Martha Graham Dance Company, in 1926 and choreographed more than 180 works during her life span. She was the first dancer to have performed at the White house.
The animation was conceived by artist Ryan Woodward, who took inspiration from Blakeley White-McGuire of the existing Martha Graham Dance Company.
Speaking on the Doodle, Woodward said, "It was really great to work with Dancers and Choreographers from the Martha Graham Dance Company in New York on this. Martha was an incredible artist."
Graham breathed her last breath in 1991 at the age of 96.
