A report published by the Pew Research Center on 12th May 2011 has revealed that 80% of all US Internet users look up for health related information on internet. Moreover, 34% of US Internet users went online to read someone else's commentary or experience about a certain medical issue, and 25% of Internet users have gone online to watch a health-related video.
The report was formed on the bases of responses from 3,001 adults obtained between August and September 2010. The study researcher Susannah Fox who is also Associate Director of the Pew Internet & American Life Project has told that the report also throws light that 18% of Internet users have gone online to find other people who have medical concerns similar to theirs.
He further said that social networking sites do not carry sufficient information about health care and medical science. It has emerged that 4% of US internet users post their own health experiences with a treatment online and similar number of user post review of a doctor online.
Social networking sites can at time be misleading because people make blogs when they are emotional and their emotions can be misleading for those seeking advice on internet. Therefore, people are advised to contact doctors for any health related quarries and not internet.
