After hitting Apple’s iOS platform around nine months back, Netflix is finally coming to Android OS-based devices.
Popular movie-rental & streaming service Netflix has announced that it had a streaming app for Android that would let users to watch movies and television shows directly on their handhelds.
But, the new app has been announced only for a total of five handsets, viz. the HTC Incredible, the HTC Nexus One, the HTC Evo 4G and the HTC G2 and the Samsung Nexus S.
It may be noted here that there are more than three hundred Android-based devices, but owners of the devices other than the mentioned above will not be able to use the app as Netflix has not customized the app for each Android device.
On Apple’s iOS platform, Netflix has to deal with a small number of devices, while Android accounts for hundreds of devices, which makes it a big ordeal for any single company to handle.
Last month, Netflix Chief Executive Reed Hastings announced in a conference call that the Android rollout of the service was a "big priority" for the company.
The Netflix app can be downloaded from Android Market for absolutely free.
