Sports drink, yoghurt and other food items have extra added sugar and people are generally unaware of the amount of sugar they ingest. One’s sugar ingestion should be regulated as sugar is known to be reason for number of health problems.
Diabetes, pre-diabetes, tooth decay, high blood pressure, cholesterol problems, skin rashes, allergies, asthma, fatigue and many more can be the result of excessive sugar. Experts suggest that man should not ingest more than 37.5 grams or 9 teaspoons of sugar a day while women’s total sugar intake should not exceed 25 grams per day. The children should also limit their sugar intake to 6 grams per day.
The sports drinks available in the market propose themselves as healthiest way to hydrate while getting fit but single glance on their content labels reveal the high sugar content in them. One teaspoon equals to 4.2 grams of sugar and sugar content can be calculated from the label. Moreover, there are some fresh and bottled healthy water brands that have extra added sugar. Sugar is most common sweetener and preservative used in food items.
Diabetes Australia has given that nearly 275 people develop diabetes everyday in this country.
