NASA’s space shuttle Endeavour is set to blast off at 8:56 a. m. ET on Monday from Launch Pad 39A at Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
Mission managers on Saturday unanimously approved Monday morning for the launch of Endeavour. Weather forecasters predicted 70 per cent chances for acceptable weather conditions.
At 11:36 p. m. Sunday, NASA engineers will start filling the shuttle's fifteen-story external tank with more than 500,000 gallons of liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen. The propellant-loading activity is expected to consume three hours to complete.
Late last month, Endeavour’s launch was scrubbed after engineers discovered a technical glitch in its engine compartment. Engineers replaced a faulty switch and thermostat.
Endeavour will carry six astronauts and some essential equipment to the International Space Station (ISS). The flight will be commanded by astronaut Mark Kelly, the husband of recuperating U. S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords, who was shot in the head during a shooting spree in January in Tucson, Arizona.
Ms. Giffords will be at Cape Canaveral, Florida, to witness that launch of space shuttle Endeavour.
After Endeavour’s launch, NASA will have only one more shuttle mission- Atlantis, which is slated for sometime in July.
