On Monday, Citigroup announced that it had appointed Abhay Pande as their new head of Southeast Asia industrials. Mr. Pande has spent 13 years working with Citigroup, and will now be working for Citigroup in Singapore. Before this, Mr. Pande was based out of New York where he worked as the managing director of the global energy banking team.
In addition to this new appointment, Mr. Pande was also given the position of co-head for energy global banking in Asia along with his colleague Jason Johnson who currently works as the Asia head of natural resources.
“The rapid economic growth throughout Asia is driving significant growth in cross-border investments and capital flows and the Asian energy sector represents a unique growth opportunity for the firm”, wrote Michael Borch and Stephen Trauber in an internal note.
According to Citi, the new hiring reinforced their focus and commitment to the expansion of Southeast Asia. To back this up, they’ve made a lot of recent hiring moves to support their position in the Asian market. Last month, Tracey Woon was appointed as the company’s first ASEAN investment banking head, and they also hired David Khoo from RBS to join their financial institutions team.
