A recent report by the Philippine Cancer Society (PCS) has revealed that breast cancer is the leading cause of death in both men and women of Philippines.
The cases of breast cancer in the country have exceeded that of lung cancer in both the sexes. Breast cancer is ranked by the report as the no. 1 killer among women. This year, about 12,262 new cases of breast cancer are likely to occur among women whereas 4,371 will die of breast cancer.
The Chairman of PCS, Dr. Roberto Paterno said that there is a need to intensify the national cancer control program of the country in order to reduce the cases of breast cancer. More efforts are required to save the women of the country from deadly disease.
Woman need to be aware of the symptoms of the disease and how to prevent it, which is possible only with the help of cancer control programs. The PCS programs are required to encourage women to do self-examination and undergo annual breast examination when they reach 30. Such measures can help the country in combating the cancer endemic.
