Detective game L.A. Noire: at a glance

LA NoireDetective game L. A. Noire is set in post World War II (1947) in Los Angeles. After returning from the WWII, Cole Phelps joins the LAPD and the game starts unfolding from there.

The gameplay can be classified into three major disciplines viz. action, investigation and interrogation. Axction in the game involves events like that of shoot-outs and high-speed chases. Investigation involves Phelps and his colleague walking around the scene of a crime in search of clues. Interrogation proceedings involve picking up on slight cues from the person the detective interrogates.

The player will live or die by the detective's trusty notebook, a comprehensive index of each case's suspects, proof, clues and all that. It is this notebook which is frequently consulted by the player (Phelps) for finger-pointing.

There are some graphical glitches, but overall graphics of the game are superb, thanks to the MotionScan technology which brought the detailed and realistic faces of characters in the game.

The audio composition, right from music to sound effects, is great. The going off of firearms, the roaring of engine and the sultry jazz music are efficient to immerse the player in the game. The thrilling experience gets deeper with the help of top-notch voice acting.

L. A. Noire has plentiful content. The game is nearly enough to fill an entire PlayStation 3 Blu-ray disc. It can roughly run for 15-20 hours.
