Immigrants Consuming American Food More Likely to Become Obese: Study

 StudyA recent study carried out by the researchers from the University of Washington, University of California-Berkeley and Stanford University has revealed surprising facts related to the eating habits of immigrants. The study has claimed that immigrants who consume American food are more likely to become obese or suffer from chronic illnesses related to obesity. The study will be published in the June issue of Psychological Science.

Researchers of the study believe that these findings must serve as a wakeup call for the immigrants who eat American food as they intake on an average 182 extra calories and seven additional grams of saturated fat compared to immigrants who stick to their traditional diet.

Researchers claim that majority of immigrants prefer to eat typical American food such as bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwiches, fried chicken, hot dogs and hamburgers and only few of them prefer to chose Asian food like sushi, pad Thai rice noodle dishes, or chicken teriyaki.

Switching the habit of eating has been held responsible for higher rate of obesity among American Immigrants. The study stress upon the importance of maintain healthy weigh and avoiding diet laced with extra calories as obesity can lead to long-term health problems which are the leading killer diseases.
