Rockstar blames PS3 firmware 3.61 for overheating older modelsRockstar Games, the company behinds hits Grand Theft Auto, has blamed Sony’s recently released firmware update 3.61 causing older models of PS3 to overheat or unwillingly shut down.

The video games company claimed that had confirmed that Sony’s 3.61 firmware update was to blame for causing problems with games developed by them and others.

According to Rockstar, firmware update 3.61 was designed to address issues with the PlayStation Network, but it causes PS3 consoles overheating while playing L. A. Noire, mostly on 60GB and 80GB older, fat models.

Commenting on the issue, a spokesperson for Rockstar said, “This can range from games randomly freezing to PS3s turning off anywhere between 30 mins use to 2 hours. We have confirmed locally that multiple games overheat or freeze only when 3.61 is installed.”

Rockstar has urged gamers to notify the Japanese electronic giant Sony about the problems. The company added that in the meantime it would search for ways to possibly remedy the situation on its own.

Sony, so far, hasn’t issued any comment on the matter.
