Microsoft to allow cloud move for no extra cost

Microsoft customers will be able to relocate their existing servers to the cloud for no additional costs, thanks to the modified rules that will likely take effect from 1st of July.

The new set of rules, dubbed license mobility, will cover customers who are currently on Volume License deals via Software Assurance for Microsoft SharePoint Server, Exchange Server, SQL Server, Lync Server and Dynamics CRM and System Center server.

Making the announcement, the software giant said, “License Mobility will provide customers the flexibility to deploy certain server applications with active Software Assurance on-premises or in the cloud, without having to buy additional licenses.”

The move will provide customers with enhanced flexibility, plus it will make them eligible for various consulting, system monitoring as well as virtualization services via the software company’s Software Assurance program.

The company said the move would make the system greener. Moreover, in case anything goes wrong with the cloud deal, the affected customers would be able to move their software from the cloud.
