Acclaimed online retailer Amazon. com yesterday claimed that it is now selling more of e-books than paperback printed books.
As per Amazon’s claims, since 1st of April, it sold 105 e-books for every 100 paperback printed books. It should be noted here that the company did not include free e-books.
In July last year, the retailer announced that its e-books sales surpassed hardcover sales. Currently, it is selling three times as many e-books as it was selling a year ago.
Speaking on the topic, Amazon founder & CEO Jeff Bezos said, “We had high hopes that this would happen eventually, but we never imagined it would happen this quickly—we’ve been selling print books for 15 years and Kindle books for less than four years.”
Amazon’s claims emerged five weeks following the launch of ad-supported Kindle device, which costs $25 cheaper than the retailer’s WiFi-only un-sponsored model at $139.
In United States, Amazon accounts for nearly two-thirds of e-book sales.
