Apple’s next-generation smartphone, dubbed the iPhone 5/4S will be a ‘world phone’ capable of working on all carriers, network provider Verizon Wireless claims.
According to a report published by Reuters, Verizon chief has reaffirmed that Apple’s potential iPhone would be a world phone. He said Verizon’s potential iPhone 5 would work in as many countries as AT&T’s iPhone, which boasts of its global coverage.
Last month, Verizon’s chief financial officer Fran Shammo announced during an investor conference call that the iPhone 5 would be a dual-mode world phone.
However, the iPhone 5/4S is not expected to come with LTE or any other kind of 4G connectivity.
When asked about the possibility of LTE iPhone for this year, Shammo said, “I think it’s a bigger issue for Apple than it is for us.”
Shammo also confirmed that the company has plans to axe unlimited smartphone data plans by swapping the existing $30-per-month unlimited option with new tiered pricing plans.
Shammo did not reveal the looming tiered pricing plans, but the carrier is expected to mimic AT&T’s tired pricing plans, which costs $15 for 250MB and $25 for 2GB of data per month.
