Is Red Meat a Carcinogen?

Is Red Meat a Carcinogen? The World Cancer Research Fund has put a limit of 500g a week or just over a pound of red meat consumption in order to keep safe from bowel cancer.

According to this organization, this limit should be maintained so live a risk free life.

It also warns people not to consume processed meat. This suggestion has been released after doing research work on 24 studies which mainly connected cancer to meat consumption.

Alan Jackson, Professor of nutrition at Southampton University, who chaired the expert panel, said: "On meat, the clear message that comes out of our report is that red and processed meat increase risk of bowel cancer and that people who want to reduce their risk should consider cutting down the amount they eat”.

The charity also claimed that if people eat lots of fibre food and fruits then bowel cancer can be prevented.

Teresa Nightingale, General Manager of WCRF, claimed that around 43% of bowel cancer cases will be prevented if people listen to these suggestions.

Statistical reports claim that there are 17,000 bowel cancer cases every year and with the introduction of this suggestion this might go down.

A bowel cancer death contributes to 15,000 in a year and is the third highest killer in Britain.
