Kobo introduces Touch e-reader, hacks original eReader’s price to $99E-book retailer Kobo on Monday introduced its new touch-sensitive e-ink reader, called the Kobo eReader Touch Edition, which will retail for around $130.

The new Kobo eReader Touch Edition, which comes in black and white versions, has a six-inch “Real Touch” E-Ink touchscreen display with 16 shades of grey, Wi-Fi connectivity and a massive digital library that boasts of its more than 2.3 million books, newspapers as well as magazines.

Having a weigh of just 200 grams, Kobo’s new eReader is capable of storing up to 1,000 books locally in addition to 30,000 on a removable SD card.

The company said that the new eReader is a major advance for readers. Speaking on the topic, it said, “At a time when technology is disrupting all media, Kobo’s focus on the importance of reading has resulted in a revolutionary new experience for readers.”

Retailers like Walmart, Best Buy, Borders and Indigo are offering have already started accepting pre-orders for the Kobo eReader Touch Edition. The device will be shipping in late July or early June, and will include a $10 Gift Card.

Meanwhile, the price of the first-generation Kobo WiFi has been slashed to $99.99.

Kobo claims to have more than 3.6 million users in as many as 100 countries globally.
