Google updates mobile Web version of Maps for Android and iPhone

Google updates mobile Web version of Maps for Android and iPhoneInternet search giant Google recently rolled out an update to the mobile Web version of Google Maps to ensure a better experience for users of Android and iOS-based devices such as iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

Now users of Android and iPhone smartphones are able to see their current location, but only after agreeing to transmit such information to Google. They are now able to see the same features that were earlier available from the desktop version of Google Maps.

Users of the new service will also be able to receive driving, public transport, biking and walking directions. They can turn on satellite and view Place pages.

In addition, they can click on icons for trendy businesses & transit stations, and can access starred locations & personalized My Maps.

Speaking on the topic, Google software engineer Alireza Ali said, “Google Maps for mobile browsers is platform independent—you will always get a consistent experience and the latest features without needing to install any updates, no matter what phone you use.”

It should be noted here that Google Maps for the mobile browser is not the popular native Maps app for Android and iOS devices that load immediately.

Native apps are very popular but they are not updated frequently. Thus, the Web-based version of Google Maps will be of great help for those who frequently search for fresh material.
