Plunket Clinical Advisor, Allison Jamieson, had applauded a graphic DVD, which highlights the affects of shaken baby syndrome and would be shown to every mother who gives birth in Auckland from July, and said that every single effort to publically raise the issue of shaken baby syndrome is a positive thing.
Jamieson said that a crying baby along with restless parents, suffering from lack of sleep, together can create a stressful situation with fatal effects therefore it is necessary to suggest some strategies and information to the caregivers and parents, from the beginning to deal with the situation.
"Plunket is really in a very privileged position. We now see nine out of 10 new babies born in New Zealand every year. Not only are we invited into homes to be part of that celebration of having a new baby, but also to work in partnership with them, and hopefully encourage them to find solutions to their problems”, she explained further.
The graphic DVD display, an initiative supported by Plunket, is expected to decline the number of shaken baby syndrome cases, across the New Zealand. The organization is aimed to roll down the number of child abuse cases in New Zealand.
