The water authority of South-East Queensland is facing some interruptions in integrating new fluoride dosing systems in water treatment plants.
The water supplies that should be fluoridated between 0.7 milligrams per liter and 0.9 mg/L, Mt Crosby was fluoridated 0.44 mg/L and Mudgeeraba was fluoridated 0.54 mg/L in the second quarter.
Mt Crosby water treatment plant has recorded 0.76mg/L of the chemical which damages teeth and causes other serious health problems, said Merilyn Haines, who is a Queenslanders against Water Fluoridation spokeswoman. “This is a program of unethical mass medication which was forced upon us all. There is a mountain of evidence out there that shows it can cause a range of health problems and because of its nature it accumulates in the body”, she said.
“Fluoridation will address what has been an epidemic of tooth decay in Queensland, one of the most expensive challenges in our public health system”, said Queensland Health’s Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young.
