Atheists & Agnostics Feel Less Guilt About Sex

Atheists & Agnostics Feel Less Guilt About SexA recent study conducted by researchers at Kansas University claims that atheists have better sex lives because they feel less guilt about their sexual encounters than those who are plagued by some sort of stigma attached to religious belief on the matter. It also found that those without a belief in God were able to more openly discuss their sexual fantasies and experienced greater satisfaction from the sex they had.

The group, led by Darrel Ray and Amanda Brown, surveyed more than 14,500 people. All of those questioned had sex the same number of times per week and became sexually active at similar ages. Mormons ranked their sexual guilt the highest at 8.19 out of 10. They were followed by Jehovah’s Witness, Pentecostals, Baptists and Seventh Day Adventists. Agnostics and atheists reported the least sexual guilt, at 4.81 and 4.71, respectively.

However, this data isn’t to say that people with a strong religious background don’t have incredibly enjoyable sex lives. In fact, in Judaism, having sex to satisfy your desires with your spouse out of mutual desire is actually considered a worthy deed. In addition, one Christian pastor told his married church members to have sex every night of the week, and then for 30 days straight because regular, positive sexuality promotes intimacy, emotional bonding and communication without guilt.
