People shouldn’t ignore that living thing has to die to provide meatMark Zuckerberg, founder & chief executive of gargantuan social platform Facebook, took an eccentric personal challenge this year by vowing to eat meat only from the animals killed by him.

Fortune's Postcards blog recently reported Zuckerberg has decided to eat meat only from animals personally dispatched by him. According to the report, Zuckerberg says killing animals with his own hands does not allow him to forget that a living being has to depart its life for providing meat.

Explaining why he vowed to eat meat only from animals killed by him, the Facebook founder said, “A bunch of people told me that even though they loved eating pork, they really didn't want to think about the fact that the pig used to be alive. That just seemed irresponsible to me.”

He added that he had not any issue with those people who choose to eat meat, but they should take responsibility and be thankful for what they eat rather than ignoring that fact that a living thing has to die for providing meat.

Early in May, the 27-year-old billionaire a posted a message on his private Facebook page stating, "I just killed a pig and a goat."

Zuckcerberg also explained how he was coached by Silicon Valley chef & Flea Street Café proprietor Jesse Cool about the new challenge. Cool said Zuckerberg has personally butchered a chicken, a pig and a goat, by slitting the animals’ throat with a knife, which is the kindest way to do it.

Last year, Zuckerberg’s self-imposed challenge to learn Mandarin led him to travel to China, and meet a lot of people to learn about China’s culture and history.
