After waiting for more than five weeks, PlayStation Network fans in Asia will again be able to enjoy the online gaming service as Sony has started restoring the service across the continent.
Sony’s PlayStation Network along with Qriocity audio & video streaming was down since April 20, a day after the Japanese electronics giant discovered a very sophisticated hacking attack.
The incident started when unknown hacker/s infiltrated three firewalls to get inside the system and pilfered a significant amount of personal data, including names, passwords, purchase history and credit card details on all 77 million registered accounts.
PlayStation Network along with Qriocity services have already been restored in North America, Australia, Europe and Middle East.
Now only two countries are left where PlayStation Network and Qriocity services are yet to be restored viz. South Korea and Hong Kong. The company is pursuing discussions with South Korean and Hong Kong authorities to resume the services.
On Monday, Sony declared that the sophisticated hacking attack would cost the company around $170 million in the current financial year.
