Acupuncture Improves Wellbeing and Boots Health Treatment

Acupuncture Improves Wellbeing and Boots Health TreatmentIn a recent research, a team from the University of Exeter has examined 80 patients, investigating the benefit of adding acupuncture to their usual care. The researchers observed that those patients who underwent acupuncture showed sustained and a significant benefit and admit that the treatment could be added to the list of possible therapies.

To do the study, researchers divided the 80 patients into two different groups. While 50% were treated with acupuncture for 26 weeks, the other group acted as a control group. According to the study, those who were treated with acupuncture reported a significantly improvement in overall wellbeing, including other benefits, such as self-awareness about the causes of stress in their lives, as well as exercise and a better diet. The control group underwent acupuncture at 26 weeks and reported the same benefits.

The scientist warned that this is the first trial which is investigating the effects of the acupuncture treatment in cases of unexplained symptoms. The next development should be a study about the cost-effectiveness of the treatment in a longer period.

In the meantime, while further studies are required, the research shows that doctors can recommend acupuncture to patients with unexplained symptom, as a safe and potentially effective intervention.
