Continuing its acquisition spree, virtualization giant VMware Inc. now acquired 3-year-old San Francisco-based enterprise social collaboration provider Socialcast.
VMware Inc. confirmed the acquisition on Tuesday but didn’t disclose the financial terms of the deal.
Socialcast is used inside an enterprise's firewall to allow workers and contractors to develop, present and share documents, photos, videos and all that required for a project.
Just like the other social collaboration solutions, Socialcast has a homepage, but unlike others it can be attached to other apps such as Word and PowerPoint.
Vice president and GM Brian Byun, of cloud applications at VMware, said that Socialcast works like Facebook as it allows you to follow your friends and to be followed by them into the right app in the right context.
Speaking on the topic, Byun added, “The post-PC era will be defined by a new way to work that is increasingly social, real-time and collaborative.”
Socialcast, which was previously known as Event Robot, is the fourth firm to be acquired by VNware in the last two months.
The list of VNware’s earlier acquisitions includes email & calendaring software provider Zimbra and cloudy presentation service SlideRocket.
