Twitter adds “Follow” button to third-party sites

Twitter adds “Follow” button to third-party sitesPopular micro-blogging platform Twitter has announced the addition of a one-click "Follow" button to third-party websites to allow users to follow accounts from any website.

The new "Follow" button has made it easier to find accounts of their interest from the third-party websites as users can now subscribes to updates from that website’s Twitter account. Earlier, they had to go to Twitter to follow the desired account.

Announcing the new button, Twitter’s Brian Ellin said, "For publishers and brands, adding the Follow button to your Web site and using Twitter to stay connected with your audience is a powerful combination.”

The Telegraph, MarketWatch, CBS Interactive, The Huffington Post, The Wall Street Journal, CNN, Sports and MTV have already added the “Follow” button to their pages. UK newspaper Telegraph has added the new button to its blogs, journalists’ pages and section pages like that of news, technology and sports.

Twitter expects many more websites, celebrities and others to incorporate the new button in the coming month.

Social-networking giant Facebook's "Like" button performs a similar function by delivering all the content offered by a third-party to Facebook users' news feeds.
