World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that excessive use of cell phone could trigger brain tumor. Following the warning of WHO, Green Party will now be investigating the case and will examine radiation labeling on all the cell phones.
WHO in its warning has highlighted that New Zealanders are at the greater risk as the usage of cell phone is higher in the country than anywhere else. The scientists of WHO have urged that cell phones should be classified as “possible carcinogenic”. The classification will put the cell phone in the cancer risk category as lead, chloroform and coffee.
It has been recommended that the government and telecommunication companies should inform cell phone users, on how to lower the risks associated with high phone usage. The Green Party has begun to advocate New Zealand's radiation standard. They have suggested that the cell phone packaging to display the device's Specific Absorption Rate - the level of electromagnetic radiation that could be absorbed by the body.
However, a Kiwi researcher, who contributed to the WHO study, has downplayed the findings, saying they are not definite. Martin Gledhill from the National Radiation Laboratory said the announcement is significant but further studies are necessary.
