Health Canada is advising the consumers of the York Region to avoid the usage of Tylenol Arthritis Pain 100 caplet bottles with the distinctive red Ez-Open Cap purchased in the U. S.
U. S. is recalling the product following the consumer reports of an unusual, musty, or mildew-like odor which has been linked to nausea, stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhea.
The properties of the odor have been related to trace amounts of the chemical 2,4,6-tribromoanisole in the product.
The effect of this recall covers only Tylenol Arthritis Pain Caplet 100. This particular product is not authorized for sale in Canada and could not be found in the Canadian marketplace. It may have entered the country by travelers or online purchases.
The uncharacteristic odor results due to the presence of trace amounts of 2, 4, 6-tribromoanisole. The source of this is possibly caused by the breakdown of a chemical which is used to treat wooden pallets which transport and store packaging materials.
The effects of this compound on health have not been well studied and all symptoms that have been observed till date have been reported to the manufacturer to be temporary and non-serious.
