Chip designer Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) on Wednesday used Computex trade show in Taiwan to announce its Z-Series APU, codename Desna, for tablets.
Z-01, the first chip in the Z-Series family, resembles the AMD's C-50 APU and can be found in upcoming tablets like that of MSI's 110W 10-inch WindPad tablet.
The Z-01 chip comes with two Bobcat cores clocked at 1.0GHz and Radeon HD 6250 GPU with 80 Stream processors and 280MHz GPU clock, which is yet to be confirmed by the firm. The TDP for Z-01 is rated at merely 5.9W as compared to 9W TDP of the C-50.
AMD's new Z-01 chip is expected to offer longer battery life on tablet devices.
The chip maker also announced its plans to develop AMD A8 series to compete against rival chip maker Intel's Core i7 and Core i5 processors.
AMD also disclosed its plans to develop a Bulldozer-based APU, Trinity, which blends Bulldozer cores with a GPU.
