Countries like Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa were looking forward to join the International Monetary Fund, as per the sources revealed by government of India. Even French Finance Minister, Christine Lagarde, was suppose to visit India along with her plans to visit the Brazil and the China to discuss about her willingness to be a part of IMF.
India was also in talking terms with others, proposing the countries to be the members of IMF. On the other hand, the US was offering financial aid to various countries; India was also being counted among those countries. As per Fox News reports , Washington had provided an aid of 1.4 billion dollars to 16 countries that held 10 billion dollars in treasuring securities, including China (27.2 million dollars), Brazil (25 million dollars), Russia (71.5 million dollars), India (126.6 million dollars), Mexico (316.7 million dollars) and Egypt (255.7 million dollars).
The US had given the money to these countries for varied causes like HIV/AIDs prevention, combating weapons of mass destruction, fighting tuberculosis, and counter-terrorism effort, as per the reports from Fox News. Senator Tom Coburn, Okla, believed that taking loan from countries was a matter of risk on the part of both the giver and receiver.
