According to reports, Chinese mainland's quality authorities have pushed further their ban on products imported from Taiwan, which may have been contaminated by an industrial chemical used to soften plastic products known as DEHP.
Initially the ban was not necessary as DEHP only effects the health when taken for a long period in large quantities, but now they have discover more products from Taiwan are contaminated and have enforced more strict rules.
From the recent update on the import ban posted on their website, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, stated that the mainland will put on hold imports of 812 kinds of products, as well as beverages, food products and food additives from 245 companies.
However, the number of products in the their list is said to exceed, the original one presented by the AQSIQ on the 1st of June, which was when they stated their intention to put on hold imports of 22 kinds of beverages, food products and food additives from Taiwan, suspected to be produced with DEHP.
The Food Safety Commission under the state council was reported to have ordered for more inspection and “instant recalls” of beverages, food products and additives contaminated with DEHP”.
The government has now announced that the threshold would be set at level of 1.5 parts per million and food products will be regularly checked for DEHP through the Centre for Food Safety's routine surveillance system.
