Microsoft to launch Office 365 on June 28

Microsoft to launch Office 365 on June 28Microsoft' Office 365, a cloud version of Office, will officially be launched on 28th of June, Chief Executive Steve Ballmer has revealed.

The Redmond-based software giant has invited journalists to an event on 28th of June at Skylight Soho in New York, where the new service will be launched. It may be noted here that Skylight Soho is the same studio where Windows 7 OS was launched in 2009.

Office 365 will offer a combination of Office Web Apps, online versions of Word, excel and PowerPoint, along with Lync and SharePoint software.

Last week in Delhi, India, Mr. Ballmer said, "We'll launch our Office 365 cloud service, which gives you Lync and Exchange and SharePoint and Office and more as a subscribable service that comes from the cloud."

The software and data will be stored in the company's data centers and will be accessible through Internet. The service will be made available with an online subscription for $72 per year.

The beta version of Office 365 has attracted over 100,000 customers, and was recently made available in public beta.

The Office 365 cloud service will replace Microsoft's existing Business Productivity Online Suite (BPOS) service.
