Google posts Doodle to celebrate author Scarry’s 92nd birthday Web search giant Google on Sunday posted a special Doodle on its homepage to mark the 92nd birth anniversary of children's book author Richard Scarry, who was born on June 5, 1919.

The Doodle was a scene taken from Scarry's fictional world "Busytown," which inhabits a number of characters like Postman Pig, Lowly Worm, Huckle Cat and Sergeant Murphy.

Scarry, who wrote more than 300 books, attended the Boston-based Museum of Fine Arts. Later during the World War II, he was drafted into the U. S. Army, and sent to North Africa, where he acted as the art director, writer, editor and illustrator in the Morale Services Section of Allied Forces head quarter.

After the war, he worked for a number of magazines and worked as a freelance illustrator. Little Golden Books published Scarry's first book, titled "Great Big Car and Truck Book," in 1951. Scarry's five more books were published by Simon & Schuster in the same year.

"Richard Scarry's Best Word Book Ever," which came in 1963 grabbed the title of bets seller. The book features pages full of everyday things and allow children associate items with their names.

Scarry breathed his last breath in 1994 at the age of 74.
