The UK is all set to announce 9 new wind farms to enhance its capacity to generate offshore wind power.
Today, the UK Government will announce the winners of third and largest round of tenders for the right to develop the 9 wind farms.
The £75 billion project is expected to produce 70,000 jobs in the country by 2020. But, the Government could not convince any major wind turbine producer to open a factory in the UK.
As many as 6,000 turbines will be needed over the next ten years.
Turbines required for the project will most likely be imported from Denmark or Germany.
The 9 wind farms will be able to supply sufficient power to more than half of country homes, but only when the wind blows.
However, the Carbon trust, a company established by the Government to promote cuts in greenhouse gas emissions, said that offshore wind power should be developed more quickly and cheaply to attract investors.
