A decision to suspend live exports to Indonesia had overshadowed the Prime Minister, Julia Gillard’s visit to Northern Territory. While addressing the reporters, during the three day tour of Alice Springs and other NT communities, Ms. Gillard claimed that the intervention has made a difference.
In addition to this, the Minister had claimed to provide around 7000 meals, each day, to the children along with the best possible family-income income management plans leading to better child health and wellbeing, and greater availability of fruit and vegetables in camp stores.
"We are also seeing reductions in things like aggravated assaults in recent statistics ... so change is happening”, added the Prime Minister. "One of the reasons I have been here talking to people is I want to hear the voices of indigenous Australians and their communities as we shape the next phase of policy”.
In response to a question pinpointing suspend live exports to Indonesia, Ms. Gillard defended the decision however, admitted that it will have an impact on the industry. She revealed her meeting with the industry representatives in Darwin last night and claimed that they were all shocked.
On the other hand, the opposition leader, Tony Abbott, believes that problems have shifted to Alice Springs, Katherine and Tennant Creek.
