Google on Thursday posted a digital guitar doodle on its home page to commemorate the 96th birthday of the legendary musician Les Paul- the father of the electric guitar.
The virtual guitar, which was created with the help of a combination of HTML5, the Flash Plugin and JavaScript, allowed users to play tunes and the doodle also allowed users to record songs and share them with others.
There was also a hidden keyboard which when clicked on allowed users to play tunes with the help of keyboard, instead of mouse. The 1 key used to play the lowest note, while 0 to strum the highest. Hitting numerous keys at a time was resulting in playing a chord.
Born in 1915, Les Paul helped in setting off the era of rock & roll by inventing the solid body electric guitar. He also invented multi-track recording, which allowed musicians, for the first time, to record their songs track by track, and mix them later.
Google frequently posts special doodles to mark special days, such as the birth of a legendary figure. The First Google doodle was created in 1998 to celebrate the Burning Man festival.
Les Paul breathed his last breath in 2009 at the age of 94.
