Microsoft to issue 16 security updates to fix 34 flaws

Microsoft has announced that it would issue 16 security updates on Tuesday next week to address a total of 34 flaws in Windows, Internet Explorer, SQL Server, Office and all that.

The software firm usually issues larger number of security updates in even-numbered months, and fewer in odd-numbered months. For instance, Microsoft shipped just two updates in May to fix just three vulnerabilities.

Speaking on the topic, Security operations director Andrew Storms from nCircle Security said, "It's the usual mishmash for an even-numbered month. But to some degree, we expected a big month. And they stayed true to form.”

Of the total 16 updates, 9 will come rated as "critical," while the remaining 7 updates will be rated "important," the second-most-dire threat label in the company’s four-step scoring system.

The upcoming security patch will be the second-largest this year, following April's patch which included 17 updates.

Separately, Vice President Mike Delman, of global marketing at Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Business group, announced at the E3 event that the software giant would team up with regional cable companies to bring live TV onto the Xbox.
