Slight Profit Expected by Aer Lingus in Second Half of Year

Aer-LingusOn Friday, the Aer Lingus Group revealed that it is expecting to post a slight operating profit for 2009's later 6 months, on the back of the company's many efforts to cut back costs, including removal of long route aircrafts which was done in September, and November's cancellations of tactical route.

The company is now expecting that demand among travelers will be a little less for 2010's first half and the firm will, therefore, continue to maintain its focus on "tight capacity management" to effectively improve yields.

Also, Aer Lingus has decided to introduce some significant changes to its London Gatwick Base.

Starting March 21, 2010, the company will pull back capacity at the aforementioned base from 5 to 3 Airbus A320 airplanes, and these 3 planes will continue to serve three existing routes to Malaga, Dublin and Knock and a new route to Cork.

Agood news for the airline for the month of December has been a 9% rise in the total number of travelers, as compared to December of 2008.
