Taiwanese handset manufacturer HTC has just used its Facebook page to declare that the Desire smartphone will not be upgraded to Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
HTC explained that its engineering team had been making sincere efforts to bring Gingerbread operating system to the HTC Desire handset, but they failed in their attempt due to lack of memory space on the handset.
The Taiwanese firm apologised by saying, “We're sincerely sorry for the disappointment that this news may bring to some of you.”
The announcement disappointed Desire users who had been waiting for Gingerbread since it was promised by HTC back in February. Some angry Desire owners said the handset maker would lost allo of its Desire customers.
However, HTC confirmed that the announcement relates only to the Desire and not other versions of the smartphone, such as the Desire HD.
