Vaccine Against Dengue May be Out by 2015Dengue vaccine is no more a fantasy as it can be concocted by 2015, said Bangkok researchers. This news is a relief tonic for the community. Dengue fever caused due to a mosquito’s bite infects around 220 million people every year.

Sanofi-Pasteur Group’s Head of Vaccine Development Jean Lang confirmed that the vaccine can come out by the year 2015.

A study will be conducted on around 4,000 children in the central Thai province of Ratchaburi, to find out the effectiveness of the vaccine. The participants will be injected thrice after every six months and if the vaccination turns out to be fruitful Singapore will be at the edge of taking the benefit.

It is notified that the disease crests out mostly in the month of June and is mainly spread in ASEAN countries. This breakbone fever caused by dengue virus leads to fever, headache and joint pains and increasing in the blood platelets.

Professor Duane J Gubler, from Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School Singapore said, “Singapore lives in a sea of dengue. All of the countries around Singapore (such as) Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines all have massive epidemics of dengue and dengue hemorrhagic fever”. This vaccine could provide relief to millions of people.
