Opening of Renal Services at North Shore Hospital Comes as a Relief for PatientsWaitemata and Auckland residents are contented by the news of the opening of dialysis Centre at North Shore Hospital (NSH). Now Kidney patients will not have to travel for long hours for their treatment. Health Ministry is starting a high-tech Dialysis Centre, worth $9.2 million at NSH. Earlier residents of Waitemata visited the centre of central Auckland for the treatment.

Health Minister Mr. Ryall said that there is a high demand for dialysis centre to be located nearby the residential areas. Auckland District health board is soon going to set up three renal dialysis centres, close to other main hospitals and the first dialysis centre will be constructed by next year in east Auckland which will include peritoneal dialysis unit.

Mr. Ryall stated, "From July 4, Waitemata District Health Board's 250 dialysis patients, 140 transplant recipients and several hundred people with advanced chronic kidney disease will be able to get their treatment on their side of the harbour bridge".

Waitemata has a huge number of elderly people who are under the risk of renal diseases due to high blood pressure and diabetes, said Mr. Ryall. These dialysis centres will diagnose the various types of kidney diseases, with the advancement of a radiology and renal vascular access surgery service at North Shore Hospital.
