Google launches “Me on the Web” identity tool

Google launches “Me on the Web” identity tool Google has provided its users with a new tool to allow them monitor and manage their own identity on the Internet.

The new tool, called Me on the Web, has been designed for Internet users interested in tracking online references to their names and to other personal data that may be inappropriate or untrue.

The new tool makes the creation of Google Alerts simpler. Google Alerts generates a notification every time when search engine crawler finds a particular term on a Web page. In this case, the toll will generate alerts for things such as their names or e-mail addresses.

Product Manager Andreas Tuerk said some aspects are determined not only by what a user post about his/her own self, but also by what other post about the user.

A blog post written by Tuerk, states, "Me on the Web also provides links to resources offering information on how to control what third-party information is posted about you on the web.”

The new feature will require people to have a Google Account. It is placed in the Google Account's Dashboard section.
