A recent study carried out by the researchers from Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) at the University of Washington has claimed that people living in the counties of the United States have shorter lives as compared to people living in other countries.
The researchers have found that these people have lower life expectancy as compared to others. People living in Japan, Canada, and other nations live significantly better life than people from most of the counties of the US.
Dr. Christopher Murray, IHME Director and one of the paper's Co-Authors said, “Despite the fact that the US spends more per capita than any other nation on health, eight out of every 10 counties are not keeping pace in terms of health outcomes, that's a staggering statistic”.
The research has revealed that five counties in Mississippi have the lowest life expectancies for women. Those below the age of 74.5 years have poor life expectancy as compare to their counterparts from nations such as Honduras, El Salvador, and Peru.
Researchers have said that the life expectancy in the US is not dependent on size of the nation, racial diversity, or economics rather it is dependent on high rates of obesity and tobacco use.
