The New York Post has reportedly blocked access to its website via the iPad’s Safari browser.
According to emerging reports, the iPad users that try to view The New York Post’s website via the iOS-powered browser, Safari, encounter an advertisement that states that the editorial content is accessible only via the New York Post app.
The New York Post app is available for merely $1.99, but it also requires the users to get a subscription plan that at least $6.99 a month. Six-month and 12-month options cost $39.99 and $74.99 respectively.
Print subscriptions do not include access to the digital content and vice versa. Thus, those who want your Post served fresh daily both ways, will need to spend two times.
Speaking on The New York Post’s move, “This is breaking the web. If no one used the iPad it wouldn't matter. But lots of people use it. I wonder how Apple feels about this. I can't imagine they like it.”
It appears as if The New York Post is just preventing users of Safari browser on the iPad because third-party web browsers Skyfire and Opera Mini can access the Post’s content without any issue.
