Short visits by carers are of no assistance to the poor, says a report by researchers. The home helps are so terrible that they do not do the basic tasks due to the shortage of time. The aged people are left in soiled beds, a condition that adds to their existing problems.
The elderly people face problems like not being bathed properly, no proper assistance in case of food, health and hygiene. Sometimes, the aged people are left on bed for 17 hours at a stretch which result in bed sores, said the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC).
The EHRC stated, "The full extent of the potential human rights breaches is likely to be masked by the fear of complaining and the low expectations about the quality of home care that many older people believe they are entitled to".
An elderly woman told that she has changed over 32 carers within two weeks. Some of the carers paid visit for just 15 minutes. In such cases, the basic work was also not done as they did only one task either washing or cooking. Sometimes the aged people face the problem of humiliation by being dressed in front of family members or in front of the house windows due to carelessness of the staff.
Also, due to the fear of consequences most of the elderly people do not complain about such careless attitude.
