Volunteer marshals lack of interest led to the calling off of the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC)’s Hike Against Cruelty to Kids (HACK) crusade. The charity walk was scheduled on Saturday across the Malvern Hills, as 184 participants were ready for the event. This walk was to raise cash for the ChildLine.
The walk needed 160 volunteer marshals like sweepers and the markers to assist the event and to check the security till the end. But only 91 people came forward and leaving NSPCC worried about the event.
Charity’s Regional Fund-Raising Chief said Deborah Chandos-Hall said that the safety of the HACK participants is very important for the authorities. She said that the cancelation of the event was confirmed last week and the participants have been informed through phone calls.
“This difficult decision was made as a result of lower number of volunteer marshals being available, who were needed to assist and guide our walkers in safely achieving their challenge over the tough terrain of the Malvern Hills”, said Mrs. Chandos-Hall.
She expressed her appreciation for the people who had enlisted themselves as the participants and conveyed them to participate in the 10 other HACK’s that are planned across UK in the month of September.
